Sciton® ProFractional™

The Sciton ProFractional™ laser is a wonderful alternative to CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing. It is faster and more easily tolerated. The overall appearance of skin is improved using an Erbium Laser to treat thousands of pinpoint areas of the skin. As only a fraction of the skin is directly treated with the laser, healing of the skin is in a matter of days rather than weeks.

The ProFractional™ laser addresses texture and tone and conditions such as fine lines, wrinkles, and various scars.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How many treatments are needed?

Discuss your needs and you can choose to have one or two more aggressive treatments or receive multiple treatments that are less aggressive and achieve a similar goal over a longer period of time.

What happens during the treatment?

One hour before the treatment, a topical anesthetic may be applied to your skin to reduce the sensation during the treatment. The treatment involves precise removal of small columns of skin at the depth determined by your physician. Pinpoint bleeding may occur and usually subsides in a few minutes to a few hours. Erythema, edema and a sunburn sensation will be noticed in the treatment area for a few days after the treatment.

Occasional patterned hyperpigmentation may occur but it will resolve in a few days. The healing time will differ, depending on the treatment settings used.

What does ProFractional feel like?

Patients often describe a stinging to burning sensation in the treated areas. Total time spent in the office will vary depending on the area treated and patient response.

Post Treatment

The procedure necessitates a post-treatment wound care regime that must be followed. Immediately following the procedure, you will feel as if you have a bad sunburn. Minor sloughing and itchiness will likely occur the following day. By day two, redness will begin to fade. This time varies based on the depth of your treatment.

The ProFractional treatment may produce pinpoint bleeding in the area of the channels. This event usually subsides in a few minutes to a few hours. More uncommon, it can persist for up to 24 hours. Redness and flaking of the skin may last from 2 – 5 days depending on the depth and concentration (percentage) of the laser channels of the treatment performed. There may also be initial weeping or crusting. Keeping the area moist with a light application of a barrier cream will aid in the healing process.

Can I return to normal activities after my treatment?

You will receive post-treatment instructions and guidelines to aid in a healthy recovery time. The healing process varies from patient to patient but will generally take from 5 – 10 days. Within weeks, your treated skin will feel and look smoother, fine wrinkles and pores will be less visible, and sun spots or uneven pigmentation will fade. Results depend on your condition, the number of treatments, and the area treated.

How long will my results last?

Your results will last for years to come, but you should continue to keep your skin protected at all times using a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) to protect your new, healthy skin.
