Sculptra

Looking for a more natural approach to dermal fillers? SCULPTRA® is a biostimulatory aesthetic injectable that helps stimulate your own natural collagen production to smooth facial wrinkles and improve skin tightness, for a refreshed look. Sculptra is a gel-like substance made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA-SCA) used to correct shallow-to-deep wrinkles and folds on the face.

After age 20, you lose about 1% of collagen per year. Sculptra is the first and original FDA-approved poly-L-lactic acid facial injectable that targets fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, and other signs of aging due to collagen loss, gradually helping restore skin structure and volume.

Our board-certified dermatologists and expert team of injectors have the experience, training, and technique to skillfully administer Sculptra in the right place and the perfect amount to give you the results you’re looking for.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA-SCA)?

Poly-l-lactic acid is an easily-absorbed synthetic substance that stimulates collagen production in the skin for results that last even after the filler has been safely absorbed.

What areas does Sculptra® treat?

Sculptra is FDA-approved for:

  • Cheek wrinkles
  • Deep folds between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), also called “smile lines”
  • Lines framing the mouth (marionette lines)
  • Chin wrinkles

How long does Sculptra® last and how much do I need?

Depending on the areas and condition treated, the volume of Sculptra used and the injection technique, the effect of a treatment with Sculptra may last from 1 to 2 years, but in some cases the duration of the effect can be shorter or longer.

After each injection session, tissue volume in the treated area will gradually build up over the following weeks and months as your body produces new collagen. At the time of your return visit for your next session of Sculptra® therapy, your response to the previous treatment will be assessed, and additional treatments can be performed if needed and agreed upon to optimize your correction.

The number of injections at each session will vary based on the treatment plan as determined by the Provider and the patient’s goals. Most areas of treatment will require 2 to 4 sessions, usually at 3 to 6 week intervals, for optimal correction.

How long is the treatment?

Although each procedure will vary depending on the patient, in general, you can expect treatment to last no more than 45 minutes. Many patients report experiencing minimal pain, however, you can choose to have a local numbing agent applied to make your session even more comfortable.

Who is not a candidate for Sculptra®?

Sculptra® should not be used by patients with severe allergies, previously had or have risk factors for hypertrophic scarring or keloid formation, if pregnant or nursing, under the age of 18, in areas of active infection, or on immunosuppressive therapy.

Is the treatment painful?

To maximize your comfort during the procedure, a topical anesthetic may be applied. In some cases, a local numbing medication will be injected into or around the area(s) to be treated. You may experience a mild amount of tenderness or a stinging sensation following injection. To ensure a smooth and even correction, your provider may massage the area(s) treated, which may cause a temporary, minimal amount of redness to your skin. Moderate to severe bruising may occur, so it best advised to avoid having this treatment close to the date of a special occasion.

What is the advised post treatment care?

The treated area MUST BE MASSAGED to evenly distribute Sculptra. A good rule of thumb is 5-5-5: Massage the injected area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days in a row. Following all Pre and Post Care Instructions are essential for good patient outcomes.

What can be expected after the treatment?

After the injection(s) some common injection-related reaction will likely occur, this may include swelling, redness, pain, itching, moderate to severe bruising, discoloration, and tenderness at the injection site. These typically resolve spontaneously, usually within 1 to 15 days after injection.

Depending upon the area(s) treated and product(s) used, you may feel “firmness” in the treated area(s) for 1 to 2 weeks after treatment. Over time, the area(s) will soften and “settle”. If significant bruising occurs after the procedure, we offer a complimentary Laser treatment for bruising that is available upon request.
