Condition overview:
Thick, red, scaly, well demarcated plaques on the skin, usually symmetric over extensor surfaces (elbows, knees) or other areas such as scalp, nails, palms and soles. In mild cases, Psoriasis may involve small areas, while moderate to severe cases may involve much of the body surfaces. Psoriasis may also be associated with joint problems and psoriatic arthritis.
Symptoms: Thick red plaques, with silvery scale and constant shedding scale over scalp or body. Psoriasis may be associated with joint inflammation and joint aches.
Treatments:
- Topical steroids: Clobetasol, Triamcinalome
- Topical Vitamin D: Dovonex
- Topical Retinoids: Tazorac
- Combination Products: Taclonex (Vitamin-D and a Steroid)
- Ultra-violet Light or outdoor sunlight, UVB, narrow band UVB or PUVA
- Systemic Treatments: Soriatne (Vitamin-A) Methotrexate, Cyclosporine
- Injectable Biologic therapy: Enbrel, Humira, Raptiva, Remicode
